Doesn't matter
Toy steering wheel (although a paper plate or round plastic lid will do!)

Going on a pretend journey can make real car journeys even more fun, and encourage your toddler to use their imagination.

Simply sit your toddler on your knee or on the floor, and use a plastic plate or lid as a pretend steering wheel. You could also sit on chairs or in a box to pretend you’re in a car. Then off you go! Ask your toddler where they’d like to go and point out imaginary things you might see on your drive – a big red bus, a lady walking her dog, someone you know that you can both wave to… Don’t forget to let your toddler sound the horn with a ‘beep beep’!

As well as developing imaginative play, it can also help them to understand spatial awareness and test out their vocabulary.
