I had the same problem early on when my baby was about a month and a half 2 months old. The problem was that she got so used to sleeping in my arms or anybody's arm for that matter and wouldn't settle own when it came to her sleeping in her cot.
What I had to do eventually was to introduce her to the soother. She wouldn't take it at first but eventually she started to take it.
So during the day afer her first morning feed, I would watch for signs that she was feeling sleepy the would usually be her scratching her eyes. So immediately I would take the oppurtunity to put her to sleep IN HER COT. So with her soother in her mouth, I'd lay her down in her cot, stood by her cot and would lay my hands on her and whisper soft reasuring words to her to reassure her that there was nothing to be scared of. Eventually, she fell off to sleep. As time went on, I gradually stopped standing by her cot so that she was comfortable enough to fall asleep without me standing by.
The idea behind this was to get her used to sleeping in her cot, so that when it was night time and time to go to sleep for the night, it wouldn't be such a shock for her.
So put your baby to sleep in her cot during the daytime, if you haven't already started using a soother, you can introduce her to one, or you could try giving her a cuddly toy or a cloth that has your scent on it so that she still feels your around her.(but please supervise so as to prevent suffocation). If after putting her in her cot you find that she's still crying and unsettled, lift her out and without making eye contact with her, cradle her in your arms with your face pressed into her neck and you rocking from side to side.(this is sure to calm her down). Do this for a few minutes, then try putting her in her cot again.
I would advice too that you MUST not give up trying as it can be done. It might seem difficult at first but trust me it does pay off. You have to remain firm and strong but at the same time gentle ad reassuring. Hope I've helped somehow. Good luck!!!
