They are not that bad!! My 6 year old had a dummy - he was a very colicky baby and sucking really soothed him. He gave it to "the poorly children" when he was two without any song or dance! I gave my daughter, now 3 mths, a dummy and she generally just uses it when distressed or tired. Babies have a very strong desire to suck and it is the best thing to settle them. Dummies are not dirty, so long as they are clean and sterilised. The recommendation is now that babies can be weaned off a dummy from 4 months, as this is when the need to suck reduces and a "habit" forms. Don't worry - your baby is just a wee toot and the dummy will help her until she is old enough to self soothe another way. Thanks!
