hiya hope i can help.
my daughter was 2 weeks when we put her in her cot. we used to always wait and let her full asleep on us then we used to put her down.
i wasnt happy with doing it but thought i was the right thing to do.(as was 1st time mum)
in the end we started to put her down when she was awake, se always started crying but we used to leave her for a bit then we would go into her. we did this a few times then she fell asleep.
i know its hard for some people to leave their children crying, it was hard for me. it does get easier. as long as the child is safe and you know hes not hungry or ill, there is no reason why you shoulnt let them cry for a little. also make sure he has a routine which will settle him better as he would know what to expect before bedtime. have a quite time before putting him in his cot, read a book etc. also have a dem light on.
make sure you reasure him and not get round up or cross as it wont help either of you.
there are books around too, but for us we wernt text book parents we just went along with the child and she had to fit in with us.
i hope this helps, there are health visiters there to advise you and support you too.
let me know how you got on, your not alone with this subject. my email address is
