3rd degree tear

Hiya everyone, had my baby 3 weeks ago, had a bit of a bad time in labour, he was a bit of a whopper and ended up with a 3rd degree tear very painful and lots of stitches, has anyone else had this? also my midwife told me that me & my husband can start having sex again when i feel ready, but on the info given to me from the hospital about a 3rd degree tear it says i should wait til after my six week check? does anyone know how long you should wait? sorry a bit personal i know!!! Thanks XX
