BBC THREE’s The Baby Borrowers is back for a second series and we are looking for 6 month to 14 year old babies and children who might like to get involved in filming.
The Baby Borrowers was aired early this year on BBC3 and it was a big hit. The series has been recommissioned and we are now looking for babies and children to participate in the next series, so I’m emailing you to see whether you would like us to consider your baby or child to take part in the programme.
We’re looking for children who will be between the ages of 6 months and 14 years in August this year.
To refresh your memory, The Baby Borrowers is a series which aims to illustrate issues around parenting, featuring a hand-picked group of 16 to 19 year old couples who feel ready for adult life. The series is a social experiment - over a short period of time, the teenagers will all be given the keys to their own accommodation and given a taste of the responsibilities associated with adult life. They’ll be asked to keep house, budget money, do the cooking, washing, cleaning…everything that they take for granted at the moment. The teen couples will also be given an extended "babysitting" experience, where they would be asked to care for a baby or child over a few days. They will be asked to care for children of different age groups - starting off first with a baby, a toddler, and then later, older children, first aged 9 – 11, then aged 12 -14, giving them a “life on fast forward” experience of being a parent. This time around, we are giving the series a summery feel, and setting the filming on the coast.
As with all BBC documentary productions, incredibly high standards are set in place. The teens will be handpicked and will undergo a rigorous vetting procedure. The babies and toddlers will be babysat by the teens in the presence of childcare experts, who will be on hand 24 hours a day. Additionally, round-the-clock CCTV will be rigged in each room and the parents of the babies and children are welcome to view this as much as they wish. The parents and children who were involved last year had an enjoyable time and were all pleased that they had taken part.
Series 2 will be filmed throughout the summer holidays, and run as a series of 10 programmes, to be transmitted on BBC3 every weekday evening across a fortnight.
