i read loads of books on the matter and found that sooo many contradict each other on what age u can give certain foods. i started weaning my baby on root veg pureed wiv his usual milk, then gradually started making things in a thicker consistency. i didn't think babies could have finger foods b4 6 months, but my health visitor suggested i try it, and my son loved feeding himself! once they hit 6 months, it opens a whole new scope 4 wot u can feed them. however, my son isn't quite 6months yet, and he ate his first greasy fry up today! (slightly blended on toast fingers)... he loved it! i think only u know your child best, u just hav to make sure u supervise them at meal times to avoid choking, but that goes without saying! i started weaning my boy a month and a half ago, he already eats 3 quite lumpy meals a day... he's an eating machine!
