My first was an emergency c section 2 years ago. He was overdue, didnt engage, only dilated to 2 cms and he was severely distressed. He almost died. The midwives had known he was a big baby but the consultant wasnt having any of it and said as Im quite big built I would have no troubles and the birth would be a breeze. Turns out the midwives were right. I didnt want to risk it again and went to see the consultant who said I should opt for a normal delivery. I was terrified it would go wrong and wanted a c section but he was very reluctant. My son then turned breech at 35 weeks so he HAD to book me in for an elective. I ended up with another emergency c section at 36 weeks coz I fell onto my bump. Although it was technically an emergency, there wasnt the rush of the first one, as they were pretty sure he was ok although there was a small chance he wasnt. They were more worried that I had caused placental abruption. The whole thing was so much better, more relaxed and less sressful than first time. Although i ended up with an emergency, Im glad I opted for an elective coz it meant my son didnt have any of the troubles my eldest had.
