just wanted to let you know that I tried the birthing pool for my first labour - couldnt have asked for anything better! My waters broke about 7.50pm I was 2 cm dilated, got in pool ate sandwiches! When the contractions changed and became stronger I decided to have dia-morphine so I got out about 10pm was taken across to the deliver room when the nurse stabbed me in the bottom with needle and left the room saying she would only be a moment. She had only been gone 10-15 mins and I thought something was wrong as the contractions changed again. Midwife came in and said oh baby's heads there. Shannon was born at 10.50 pm, thats roughly 3 hours after my waters broke. We nicknamed her last orders. But I swear that when this one comes I am going to fight for the birthing pool it eases everthing and softens it too. I did not have to be cut but did tear, but not enough to be stitched. All in all I think it was a pretty painless fast labour/delivery for my first. I hope this one is as quick.
P.S. take the horror stories with a pinch of salt, everyone is different and if you go in with a posistive frame of mind you cant go far wrong.
Good luck x
