What I didn't realise about labour is that inbetween contractions - there is no pain what so ever!! You can even have a little sleep.
I was scared about labour but I survived it! I started off with a tens machine at home(best to use one early in labour as the effect builds up over time - little point using one late into labour). I then had pethidine once I was in hosptial - but asked for half a shot incase i didn't like it. It was fab, made me so much more relaxed, then a little while later when it had worn off I could have another shot - fabulous. I then used gas and air for the final part - again it was really helpful for me. I didn't need an epidural.
Don't be scared of the hospital, the midwives are so lovely and really guide you through the labour. It is reasuring to be in the hospital as if you need any help - everything is at hand.
Once you have your gorgeous bundle of baby you will honestly wonder why you were so worried!
