When I went for my first antenatal, I had just had my 12 week scan the day before (just the way it worked out). The appointment took about 45 minutes to an hour, as the midwife got me to fill in lots of information in what would become my maternity notes booklet. She took blood and tested my urine, and talked me through lots of things. It was a really good time to talk through any worries, like what you can or cant do/eat, etc. As for taking your partner, the nicest bit of the appointment was when the midwife used a machine so I could hear my baby's heartbeat! That was amazing and I wish my partner had been there to hear it. Sometimes you cant hear it in the first appointment - which isnt anything to panic about - but I felt really emotional when I heard it for the first time - it was wonderful.
