Maternity Leave and Your Rights

Me again! I have just been doing some research on Maternity leave and apparently if your baby is due on or after 1st April 2007, then you are entitled to 9 months PAID leave. Does anyone know if this is a womans right by law or only if the company you work for allow it? My current employer has the 6 months paid and 6 months unpaid policy but I'm not sure if they are aware of the new rights starting next year. They do not know I am pregnant yet as I am only 7 weeks so going to try and hang on a bit longer! Does anyone have any advice??

Thank you :)
