How to store baby milk

Some things, like always sticking to good hygiene practices and following manufacturer’s guidelines when preparing your baby’s food, remain the same. The Department of Health and Food Standards Agency have issued advice about how to prepare baby milk:

  • Boil freshly-run water. Leave the kettle to cool for no longer than 30 minutes before mixing it with the milk powder. Don't use artificially softened or repeatedly boiled water as the mineral levels might be too high.
  • Prepare baby milk fresh for each feed, as storing milk could increase the chances of your baby becoming ill.
  • Throw away any left-over milk after 2 hours.
  • Always test the temperature of the feed and, if needed, cool the feed down by holding the bottle – with the teat covered – under cold running water.
